Bulimia nervosa involves cycles of binge eating and purging. Purging can be described as any behavior that assists in getting rid of food, including excessive exercise and abuse of diet pills, diuretics, or laxatives. Binge eating disorder involves recurrent episodes of binge eating without purging.
