What is one unintended consequence of war that benefits women? Use World War II as an example.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary but should discuss that one unintended consequence of war is that women can benefit from warfare and its disruption of business as usual. They can gain greater economic independence, more freedom to act, and greater mobility. Women can do things they could not do before because the norms and values of society have been disrupted. For example, they can acquire a more public role in the community and society. This was the case during World War II when labor shortages caused by the mobilization of men for military service resulted in work opportunities for women. Women entered the blue-collar workforce that had been dominated by males.
