Discuss what type of offender (i.e., age, gender, other personal characteristics, etc.) is most likely to be successful on probation and parole

What will be an ideal response?

Violations during probation or parole supervision are influenced primarily by offender behavior, officer discretion, and agency policy. Female offenders over the age of 30 and those with no prior adult or juvenile convictions are more likely to succeed. Also, offenders who have skills that allow them to maintain employment, those who are high school graduates, and those who live with their spouse or children are less likely to become recidivists. Conventional ties and positive social support of friends and family significantly contribute to success. On the other hand, being young, being unmarried, having previous convictions, and lacking emotional maturity contribute to higher failure rates.
Research notes that of the parole violators who returned to state prison, more than 95% were men, over half were African American, and most were young or middle-aged (between 25 and 39 years of age). Finally, offenders with a lack of a prior criminal record were more likely to be successful; the lower the number of previous arrests, the greater the likelihood of parole success.
