What is the cognitive component of the cognitive behavioral approach?

What will be an ideal response?

The cognitive component is based on understanding the client’s point of view, including cognitive
distortions and irrational beliefs. After carefully listening to the client’s beliefs, the therapist can address
and try to challenge and change these cognitive distortions. However, this is only effective if the client
trusts the therapist to be on his or her side, without judging him or her as a person. Irrational beliefs can
be addressed through several methods of dispute: Socratic, empirical, didactic, philosophical, and
metaphorical. The strategy should be adjusted to the type of belief and the characteristics of the situation. If there is mutual trust and understanding, the client will be willing to reexamine his or her
beliefs and change them.
