Describe how positioning theory is relevant to the helping relationship.

What will be an ideal response?

Positioning theory helps describe situations that may be problematic to helpees and offers a language for describing one’s experience in social encounters; it is especially helpful in talking about subjugated positions. Also, because the helping relationship is one where position calls are made and subject positions are taken up, it is important for helpers to appropriately attend to power influences and resulting position calls in the helping relationship. Helpers should try to invite helpees into a position of agency.
