What is strike? What is dip? How are they measured in rock layers? What will be an ideal response?

Strike is the direction of a line formed by the intersection of a horizontal plane and an inclined plane.
Using a compass, a strike line's orientation is determined with respect to north. Dip is a measure of an
inclined plane's deviation from the horizontal. It is measured at right angles to the strike direction
