What are the different types of plague?
Answer:
Bubonic plague: Initially non-specific but then develop enlarged, tender lymph nodes, fever, chills and severe weakness- need to lie down. Location of buboes depends on flea bite ie in leg? bulbous nodes in inguinal area. Spread from pus in buboes.
Septicaemic: Non-specific and then bleeding into skin and other organs ie meninges in brain. can occur as a secondary effect after bubonic or on its own. Disseminates via bloodstream.
Pneumonic plague: Non-specific but then difficulty breathing, rapid shock and death if untreated. Death within 48hrs if untreated due to high Ro= high CFR
Pharyngeal and meningitic
Septicaemic and pneumonic almost always fatal- need to treat within 2 days = PLAGUE IS A MEDICAL AND PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY
