What are the advantages and disadvantages of the counseling profession moving toward evidence-based practices?

Advantages – Treatments that have been shown to be effective may be utilized more frequently, clinical decisions will be based on valid and reliable research findings from well-designed research studies, there are several well-established EBPs for a variety of mental and emotional disorders, if using treatments that are effective then the client’s symptoms may decrease and well-being increase

Disadvantages –There is still a growing need for EBPs across different counseling specialties, need additional EBPs for diverse client populations, counselors may feel pressure to only implement particular types of treatment with clients
