What is a parliamentary system of governance, and why do Commonwealth countries such as Canada have this type of political system?

What will be an ideal response?

A parliamentary system is one where the leader of the country, in this case the Prime Minister, is also a member of the legislative branch as well as the chief executive of the country, instead of the two branches being fully separated.

Commonwealth countries have this form of government because they were once directly controlled by Great Britain and still maintain a close connection to Britain and the Queen of England.
