Answer: Complex trauma involves relational and interpersonal forms of traumatization, often chronic, that affect development. These traumas include abandonment; neglect; lack of protection; and emotional, verbal, sexual, and physical abuse by primary caretakers; human trafficking, war, torture, genocide, cults that involve mind control perpetuated by a charismatic leader; violence and exploitation due to displacement and refugee status; intractable poverty and homelessness; and exposure to community violence and terrorism.
