Philippe Bouchet and colleagues conducted a massive survey of marine molluscs on the west coast of New Caledonia. Twenty percent of the species found were represented by a single specimen. What does that suggest about the diversity of molluscs in this are
A) The west coast of New Caledonia is not an appropriate habitat for molluscs. B) They did not spend enough time sampling in the area. C) Many of the species from this 20 percent are probably rare. D) They were not sampling uniformly throughout the area. E) Many of the species from this 20 percent are most likely just dispersing through the area.

What type of natural selection are the population of voles going through?
A population of voles (very small mammals) live in a shady forest. The all of the voles are a light tan color, a dark brown coloration arises by a new mutation. The darker voles are harder for predators to see in the leaf litter, thus they are less susceptible to predation. After 10 generations the majority of voles in the population are the dark brown color. In the figure above the solid red line represents the number of light colored individuals before the mutation and the black dashed line represents the number of dark brown individuals after 10 generations.
A. Directional selection.
B. Stabilizing selection.
C. Diversifying selection (disruptive selection).
D. Balancing selection.
E. Negative frequency-dependent selection.
There are three alleles controlling the ABO blood types. IA and IB are codominant genes so that the combination IAIB produces the AB blood type. The third allele, i, is recessive to the other two alleles. Which of the following combinations of parents (with blood types on the left) and child (with blood type listed on the right) is NOT possible?
A. A ´ AB = B B. A ´ O = A C. A ´ B = O D. A ´ AB = O E. A ´ AB = B
