What will be an ideal response


Scientists now believe that succession does not occur in an orderly sequence along an expected path. Rather, the path cannot be predicted or viewed as an inevitable progression toward an ideally adapted climax community. Late-succession ecosystems are not in a state of permanent equilibrium, but are in a continual state of disturbance and change.
