Compare the purposes of gene knockouts, knock-ins, and knockdowns
What will be an ideal response?
Ans: Gene knockout is used to "delete" a gene (usually by a frameshift insertion that destroys its function) in order to assess whether it is essential to the survival of the organism or otherwise assess its loss. Knocking-in involves replacing a gene with an alternate version of the same gene to study the effects of specific changes. Knockdowns do not alter the product of the gene but decrease its level of expression.
