How is the final drive ratio determined?
What will be an ideal response?
There are several ways to determine the final drive ratio of a ring and pinion gearset.
1) If a shop manual is available, you can decipher the code found on the assembly or a tag attached to it.
2) Another way to determine the final drive ratio is to compare the number of revolutions of the drive wheels with those of the drive shaft.
3) The gear ratio also can be determined when the differential is disassembled. Count the number of teeth on both the drive pinion and the ring gear when the differential is disassembled.
