Game interface design involves informing players while also allowing them to provide feedback through various tasks and actions. Ideally, the process of informing the player includes providing ways for them gauge their progress throughout the game. There are several ways that progress can be conveyed through interface elements – including: map (showing movement toward a goal); checklist (showing tasks in various stages of completion); and bar containing enemy stats (showing health and/or lives remaining). Students should explore several possible ways that interface elements may be used in their particular games to depict player progress.
