Explain what endocrine disruptors are, and give examples. Explain why endocrine disruptors are a problem for humans, and discuss why they have not been banned

What will be an ideal response?

Endocrine disruptors are toxicants that interfere with the body's hormones. Examples include DDT and bisphenol-A. Endocrine disruptors are problems for humans because human reproduction, growth, and development can be affected by hormone mimics. They have not been banned because scientific evidence for the problems they cause has been slow in coming. Research documenting endocrine disruptor effects is controversial because it is relatively new. Research poses economic threats to chemical manufacturers as well. For instance, Tyrone Hayes's work has met with fierce criticism from scientists associated with atrazine's manufacturer which will lose money if its use is banned or restricted.
