What are some techniques for building a methodology section, and what pieces should it include?

What will be an ideal response?

Researchers can begin writing a methodology section by imaging they are explaining the process of what they did during collection of data to a friend. This will bring out the important points in a manner that is easy to understand, and highlights the salient features. There are four main pieces to a good methodology section.
• Subjects: Explains who the subjects are, how they have been identified, what they were told about their participation, and what steps have been taken to protect them from harm. The researcher should justify why this group of subjects was appropriate to be studied.
• Data: Identifies that nature of the data, and how the data were collected to allow readers to understand the data as credible and create the possibility for replication.
• Setting: Descriptions of the setting establishes that the setting was appropriate for testing the applicability of results.
• Analysis Techniques: Even when using conventional data analysis techniques, the researcher should discuss and justify the analytic strategy used.
