Identify and explain the areas for which IEPs are required to address. What was the motive or goal for requiring IEPs for children with exceptionalities?

What will be an ideal response?

There are six areas that IEPs must address: (1) present level of academic functioning, (2) annual goals and instructional objectives, (3) educational services to be provided, (4) the degree to which a child will be able to participate in regular education programs, (5) plans for initiating services and length of service, and (6) annual evaluation of procedures to determine if objectives are being met. The goal of IEPs is to ensure that all children with exceptionalities have available to them, free and appropriate educational services to meet their unique needs. The goals of IEPs are to ensure that these programs protect children's and their family’s rights and also are effective in educating the children.
