How important were ordinary Americans in the resistance movement?

What will be an ideal response?

Students may note that the headliners were members of the elite: George Washington, John Adams, and Thomas Jefferson. But resistance by artisans and laborers in urban areas was crucial. Students may discuss the Sons of Liberty as an example of how non-elites played active roles. (Better students may note, however, that Samuel Adams was clearly a member of the elite but also the leader of the Sons of Liberty.) Students should also recognize the significant role of the Daughters of Liberty and women in general.
