What would be an ideal response?
First would be seeing that the student has a conceptual understanding of the problem. This would be seeing the student utilize all the important information given in the problem to go about solving the problem and seeing that they have thought about how to go about solving the problem. Secondly, seeing that the student has procedural knowledge of how to solve the problem. They know the steps to take in order to solve the problem and checked their answer. Thirdly, the student shows that they have problem-solving skills and strategies. Maybe the student looked for other possible ways to solve the problem and that their work is organized. Lastly, and very importantly, the student shows that they can communicate how they went about solving the problem. The separate steps seemed clear to the teacher and the vocabulary and sentences were appropriate and made sense.
