What two glands are associated with the diencephalon? What are their functions?
What will be an ideal response?
The pituitary gland is associated with the hypothalamus and the pineal gland is the major part of the epithalamus. The hypothalamus secretes a variety of hormones that affect the pituitary gland. In turn, the pituitary gland secretes hormones that influence secretion from other endocrine glands throughout the body. The pineal gland secretes the hormone melatonin which helps to regulate the sleep/wake cycle.
