Describe how the story of the Little Blue Engine exemplifies what positive self-talk is? What is the main focus of self-talk (changing what about an individual’s thoughts and replacing what)?
What will be an ideal response?
Ans:
• Self-talk is a mental technique that can help you perform better on tasks you are responsible for completing, through saying things to yourself. Positive self-talk is engaging in positive talking to yourself, as opposed to dysfunctional talking. The little Blue Engine engages in positive self-talk by repeatedly saying I think I can, I think I can, which is the opposite of saying that it can’t accomplish the goals. The ultimate goal of self-talk is to try and change dysfunctional thought patterns and replace negative dialogues with more positive thoughts and dialogues.
