Explain the main differences, if any, between RESPECT and POSDCORB as they pertain to police management
What will be an ideal response?
Main points - RESPECT deals with the main areas of supervision, which are reporting, evaluating, services, planning, ethics, control, and teaching. They were created to address what supervisors in a department actually do.
POSDCORB (planning, organizing, staffing, directing, coordinating, reporting, budgeting) examines the major functions of an organization and how administrators carry them out.
There is overlap for both.
The main difference is who carries all of these functions out. For RESPECT, it is the mid-management supervisor while POSDCORB refers to administrative functions performed by management.
