Review and explain the six stages of the intercultural communication framework.

What will be an ideal response?

Stage one: denial. A person denies there are other ways of doing things. Stage two: defense. A person defends his or her culture as being the best. Stage three: minimization. A person refuses to acknowledge the subtle or major differences in culture. Stage four: acceptance. A person recognizes cultural differences. Stage five: adaptation. A person seeks to adapt his or her behavior appropriately. Stage six: integration. A person moves freely in and out of his or her own cultural mindset while adapting to others. This framework notes that before a person is able to behave appropriately toward others, he or she needs to have knowledge about other cultures, and the motivation to adapt or modify his or her behavior.
