There are four major procedures used to fade prompts. Name and briefly describe ONE

procedure. Be sure to include an example.

What will be an ideal response?

Students may describe any one of the following and provide an example:
1) Decreasing Assistance – The teacher would start with the most intrusive prompt required to ensure correct responding and systematically and gradually fade the prompt by decreasing the intrusiveness of the prompt.
2) Graduate Guidance – This procedure consists of the fading of physical prompts by gradually reducing pressure. Graduated guidance can include spatial fading or shadowing.
3) Time Delay – Time delay consists of a change in timing of delivery of the prompt but not a change in the level of prompt. The delay is consists of seconds and can include progressive or constant time delay.
4) Increasing Assistance – Increasing assistance prompts consists of beginning with the least intrusive prompt required for the student to correctly respond and then systematically increasing the prompt level until the student respond correctly.
