Describe ways to achieve a sense of continuity and flow during a full-body massage session
What will be an ideal response?
Answer: A client should feel a sense of continuity and flow throughout the entire full-body massage session. This sense contributes to the general feeling of relaxation and well-being and inspires confidence in the practitioner's abilities and intentions. Continuity helps the recipient feel as if he or she is never out of physical contact with the practitioner. While the practitioner will need to remove his or her hands at times during the session, this should happen at a minimum and as imperceptibly as possible. Never use abrupt or sudden movements, particularly when asking the recipient to change position and during draping and undraping. Flow is closely related to continuity since it relies on smooth, orderly transitions within a sequence and from one part of the body to another. Transition techniques like effleurage and skillful draping help achieve a sense of flow.
