Explain isomorphic problems. Include what research suggests concerning people's ability to deal with these types of problems

What will be an ideal response?

Sometimes, two problems are isomorphic—that is, their formal structure is the same, and only their content differs. Determining the underlying structural isomorphism of problems is often difficult. It is also difficult to apply problem-solving strategies from one problem to another. Problem solvers are particularly unlikely to detect isomorphisms when two problems are similar but not identical in structure. Furthermore, when the con- tent or the surface characteristics of the problems differ sharply, detecting the isomorphism of the structure of problems is harder.
