When you trim an image, you are cutting out image data by removing pixels in the image based on the criterion you specify in the Trim dialog box. For example, you can specify that Photoshop will trim away transparent pixels or that it will trim away pixels the color of the corner pixels in the image. When you crop an image, you can choose to delete the cropped pixels or save them. You can also control additional features. For example, you can specify the dimensions of the crop, rotate the cropping marquee, or straighten the image. In addition, you can control whether or not you want to transform the perspective of an image. When you transform perspective, you remove the distortion produced by taking a photograph at an angle. For example, you have probably seen a photograph of a tall building shot directly in front of the building, looking up. The photograph makes the building appear wider at the bottom than at the top. The Crop tool lets you correct this distortion and square the corners of the building so that it appears that the photograph was shot straight on, rather than at an angle. There will be times when you want this kind of detailed control over the image you’re working with, and you’ll choose to crop rather than trim.
