How does brood parasitism harm the hosts and benefit the parasite?

What will be an ideal response?

The host species suffers by squandering care on unrelated individuals and therefore it decreases their reproductive rate as more energy is spent on paternal care. The parasitic bird species benefits by not having to invest in parental care. This allows more energy to be spent on reproduction. The females can produce a large number of eggs.
