Give an example of how good early childhood programs can benefit a family.

What will be an ideal response?

Examples will vary, but should show a thorough understanding of the benefits of good early childhood education. A sample answer follows. In the Smith family, both parents work. Because of the work schedule, the family needs child care for their five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son. They place both of their children in good early childhood programs. Because of the expense, their budget is tight. However, as time passes, they realize that the programs have improved their children’s social skills and increased their school readiness. As a result, the children are less likely to need special education, to drop out of school, to become involved in delinquency, or to go on welfare. The children are likely to reap economic benefits from the decision for the rest of their lives, which makes the present financial strain a good investment.
