Here are several types: 1) Encounter groups (also called “sensitivity groups” or “T-groups”) – provide a form of psychotherapy, facilitate personal growth, and foster the ability to deal effectively with others. 2) Assertiveness training groups – increase the willingness to stand up for basic rights in various situations. 3) Consciousness-raising groups – help cope with problems society has imposed, organized around one common characteristic that draws interest and encourages support. 4) Intervention groups – gather friends and family to confront an individual with a serious problem and offer immediate assistance.
