Explain the major tenets of the psychological model that are used to explain intimate partner violence

What will be an ideal response?

The psychological model perspective suggests that the feminist approach is inadequate to fully explain same-gender partner abuse, since both men and women can be perpetrators. In this gender-neutral approach, partner abuse is considered learned behavior and abuse is the choice of the perpetrator. With little chance of being held accountable for abusive actions, the offenders engage in blatantly criminal behavior. The psychological model suggests that a strong message to all persons in society must be made. Equal enforcement of the laws and punishment of the offenders is the method to control partner abuse in same-gender relationships. Victims must be provided equal legal protections regardless of gender or sexual orientation. This model has joined together major elements of feminist theory with the psychological approach.
