Explain the difference between horizontal and vertical alignment.

What will be an ideal response?

Horizontal alignment defines the position and direction of a route on a horizontal plane, or plan view. For example, horizontal alignment explains the horizontal curves in a road as seen on a site plan. Vertical alignment defines the vertical form, or change in elevation, of a route on a vertical plane, or profile. For example, vertical alignment specifies the straight inclines and vertical curves in a road as displayed on a profile.
