What are the five stages of dying according to Kübler-Ross
. Denial: People feel "it can't be me. The diagnosis must be wrong.". Denial can be flat and absolute. It can also fluctuate so that a person accepts the medical verdict one minute and in the next starts chatting animatedly about distant plans.
. Anger: Denial usually gives way to anger and resentment toward the young and healthy and sometimes toward the medical establishment for failing to protect them.
. Bargaining: People may bargain with God to postpone death, promising, for example, to do good deeds if they are given another six months, another year.
. Depression: Feelings of grief, loss, and hopelessness. Grief at the prospect of leaving loved ones and life itself.
. Final acceptance: Ultimately an inner sense of peace may come with the acceptance of the inevitable. This "peace" is not contentment; it is nearly devoid of feeling. The person may still fear death, but comes to accept it with quiet dignity.
