Make a case for 360-degree performance evaluation based on the informativeness principle. What problems may be encountered from implementation of such a system?
What will be an ideal response?
The informativeness principle states that it is desirable to include all low cost performance indicators that provide information about the employee's effort. 360-degree performance evaluation includes measures of performance from peers, subordinates, and superiors who may have relevant specific knowledge about an individual's performance. One problem of this type of evaluation is that it is not necessarily low cost. The opportunity cost of time spent in completing performance assessments should be taken into account. In addition, individuals can game this system depending on how it is set up. For example, the employee may be able to nominate his friends to complete peer reviews.
