What observational evidence do we have that eruptions in the centers of galaxies involve magnetic fields?
What will be an ideal response?
High-energy jets appear to be the result of matter flowing into a supermassive black hole in the nucleus of an active galaxy. Conservation of angular momentum forces the matter to form a whirling accretion disk around the black hole. How that produces jets shooting away perpendicular to the disk is not entirely understood, but it appears to involve magnetic fields that are drawn into the accretion disk and become tightly coiled, storing energy sufficient to eject high-temperature gas. The twisted magnetic field confines the jets in a narrow beam and causes synchrotron radiation.

An LR circuit contains an ideal 60-V battery, a 51-H inductor having no resistance, a 21-? resistor, and a switch S, all in series
Initially, the switch is open and has been open for a very long time. At time t = 0 s, the switch is suddenly closed. When the voltage across the resistor is equal to the voltage across the inductor, what is the current in the circuit? A) 1.4 A B) 0.57 A C) 1.1 A D) 0.86 A E) 1.7 A
Two large equipotent surfaces are flat and parallel and separated by a relatively small distance compared to their size. One surface is at 25 V and the other is at 33 V. The surfaces are 1.25 cm apart. What is the direction of the electric field midway between the surfaces?
A. the field is parallel to the surfaces B. the field is perpendicular to the surfaces going from the 25 V surface to the 33 V surface C. the field is perpendicular to the surfaces going from the 33 V surface to the 25 V surface D. the field makes clockwise circles viewed from the 33 V surface E. the field makes clockwise circles viewed from the 25 V surface
