Why do NASA climate researchers predict that 45% of the world's land area could experience extreme drought conditions by 2059, and why should we be concerned?

What will be an ideal response?

Climate scientists at NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies have been predicting for years that climate change is going to create not just warmer temperatures, but weather patterns that lead to extreme droughts and extreme floods.  Between 1979 and 2007, the amount of the earth's land experiencing drought tripled, representing almost a third of the Earth.  Climate change is upsetting the regular patterns that have enabled us to build stable societies.  Our life support systems (agriculture, water, biodiversity) are being threatened.
