1. A time limit when a union members realizes that there is a possible violation of the contract.
2. An informal discussion with a supervisor or chief to resolve the issue.
3. If the matter cannot be resolved, filing of a formal complaint by the union member to a ranking officer.
4. Review of the matter by the ranking officer and the scheduling of a hearing and then a response is presented to the grievant.
5. If the matter is still not resolved, then the grievance may go to a neutral party or to the chief or sheriff depending on the wording of the contract.
