How did Zachary Taylor's campaign in 1848 deal with the divisive issue of slavery?

What will be an ideal response?

Zachary Taylor's campaign dealt with the issue of slavery by never addressing it directly. Taylor ran two separate campaigns, one in the South and one in the North. In the South, they stressed that Taylor owned slaves and was therefore committed to the South's interests. In the North, they emphasized that Taylor's commitment to Whig values meant that he would not be a strong executive and would therefore not veto a Wilmot Proviso-type law.
