Discuss the pros and cons of using hospital or pediatric facilities to recruit and assess infants

versus home-based assessment.

What will be an ideal response?

Private medical institutions sometimes can be very difficult to access;  access is easiest if
a medical setting has a teaching mission. Once one has access, parents many times will
use the same facility over time; thus, researchers can worry less about subject dropout
and the staff keeps track of appointments. Because medical settings offer more controls
than home-based observations, the internal validity of these settings is typically higher.
However, external validity in home-based assessment may be better; for example,
feeding interactions may be more realistic in the home.
