A
Liver descent is determined by percussing the liver. First, ask the patient to take a deep breath and hold it because on inspiration, the diaphragm moves downward. Percuss the lower border of the liver at the right midclavicular line by percussing from tympany to dullness. Have the patient exhale. Repercuss the liver-lung border. Mark where the change in sound takes place. Measure the difference in centimeters between the two lower borders of the liver.
