Andy uses foul language in your classroom on a regular basis. Explain how you might use three of the following techniques to decrease the problem behavior: a. Cueing b. Self-monitoring c. Reinforcement of an incompatible behavior d. Punishment For each technique, be specific and concrete as to what you might do

What will be an ideal response?

The response should include three of the following ideas:
a. Cueing involves providing a signal that a particular behavior should stop. The response should describe giving a particular signal to Andy that his language is unacceptable.
b. Self-monitoring involves having students observe and record their own behavior. The response should describe a method whereby Andy keeps track of the number of times he uses inappropriate language.
c. Reinforcement of an incompatible behavior involves reinforcing a behavior that precludes behaving in the manner considered undesirable. The response should describe reinforcing Andy on occasions when he uses appropriate language.
d. Punishment involves either presenting an unpleasant consequence or removing a desired stimulus when the behavior occurs. The response should describe a punishment for Andy's foul language that is consistent with the guidelines presented in Chapter 9.
