Describe the six major ethical issues in qualitative research.

What will be an ideal response?

Voluntary participation: All respondents should be able to voluntarily agree to be included in a research study. Subject well-being: All subjects should not be harmed and direct harm to the reputations or feelings of individuals should be carefully avoided. Appropriate boundaries: How to build rapport, but not become too immersed or close to participants. The idea of "fake friendships" are important and a balance needs to happen so that researchers can build rapport, without giving too much information of their private lives. Researcher safety: Depending on type of research, the researcher may not always be guaranteed safety. As such, research in the field should not begin until any potential risks to researcher safety have been evaluated and proceeding with research should only occur after weighing the relative benefits and risks. Confidentiality: This is concerned with the idea that individuals could be identified, and researchers should make every effort to expunge possible identifying material. Identity disclosure:This refers to ethical issue of what happens when researchers do not reveal their identity as a researcher or how they reveal their identity.
