Plot cross sections for each of the profiles listed in the field notes in Figure 12–15. Use a single ANSI D size sheet or two ANSI C size sheets for the layout. In each cross section, plot a 24? wide level road with 4? wide shoulders. The road elevation is 875?. The angle of repose for fill is 1 1/2:1 and 1:1 for cut. Label the road centerline and dimension the road and shoulder widths.

The road should slope 0.04 ft./ft. from the centerline to the edge of road. The shoulder slope is 0.06 ft./ft. Label the slopes on your drawing. Draw the cut and fill beginning at the outside edge of the road shoulder. Label the cut and fill with the appropriate symbol and values. Draw the existing grade as a dashed line in the areas of cut and fill. Use the Earth sectioning symbol in areas of undisturbed Earth. After drawing each cross section, determine the elevation at the intersection of the grade line and cut line. Use these elevations to calculate the earthwork involved between stations 5+00 and 7+00. Use the average end method illustrated in Figure 12–16 to calculate volumes of material in cubic yards and record the values by each cross section. What will be an ideal response?
