Learning games are associated with formal or informal learning environments or with self-learners interested in acquiring new knowledge or understanding. Although there is little hard and fast research to correlate computer and video gaming with student achievement, some findings are promising (Young et al., 2012): (1) Serious learning games for language learning show evidence of enhancing student learning, not only by the users but also by those watching the games played and (2) deep understanding of content takes time, reflection, and active engagement, which are strengths of video games.
