What are the two primary factors that can cause deciduous trees to drop their leaves? What will be an ideal response?

In northern climates, broadleaf trees drop their leaves for the winter when cool temperatures prohibit
effective continued growth. In the humid tropics characterized by dry seasons, broadleaf trees drop
their trees during the dry season. In both cases, the plants ‘escape’ harsh seasons by dropping leaves
and entering a type of dormancy.
