Describe the energy use of light dimmers.
What will be an ideal response?
Light circuits that have manual or remotely operated dimmers built into them usually use the same amount of
electricity as those that do not. Most dimmers function by adding resistance to the circuit to absorb some of the
current flow so that the amount of current reaching the light bulb is reduced. This causes the bulb to illuminate
more dimly, but the amount of current used by the bulb and the dimmer’s variable resistor is about the same as the
bulb alone would use if the resistor were not in the circuit.
