Describe the musculature of the gastrointestinal tract
What will be an ideal response?
In most parts of the GI tract, there are two layers of smooth muscle composing the walls of the tube; circular and longitudinal. Both aid in churning and peristalsis. The stomach, however, has 3 layers to allow for more complex churning and mixing. A good example of structure/function relationship.
