The Global North produces a disproportionate amount of garbage in the world and passes it along to countries in the Global South. Briefly explain why countries in the Global South would accept the electronic waste of the Global North.

What will be an ideal response?

Answers will vary but might include that Global South countries have fewer resources to keep out items that they don't want. However, they may accept electronic waste from the Global North because it creates jobs for their citizens and because the waste itself contains components such as metals, including copper, aluminum, and gold, which are considered valuable and can be recycled for money or used in new products. It would be a mistake to think that people enjoy garbage, but some live in such desperate situations that they live and work by scavenging through garbage to have enough resources to live.
