Using examples from the textbook, discuss the complexities involved for Chicana mothers to socialize their daughters into being productive members of society.

What will be an ideal response?

Chicano mothers, as with other minority mothers, have the responsibility to socialize their daughters into the reality of their minority status in society. This socialization is complicated by the desire to also encourage their daughters to strive hard in a society where their success in life is not due to will and talent alone, but rather influenced by structural roadblocks, such as racism.
